The Importance of UV Protected Windows

When one seriously starts considering living healthy, he doesn’t account for the things that are external, the ones that he cannot control. Eating healthy, running and reduced screen time all are internal factors that you can control but what about the vast wilderness of factors that affect your health but you cannot do much about it unless you wield connectivity and reformatory powers like THE UN?
The sun is a blessing to us humans. Imagine waking up to a warm, bright, dazzling day- it’s nice, isn’t it? But like everything in life, the sun poses us some threat which our planet was well equipped to handle (ozone layer) until about two or three decades ago but then humans couldn’t get enough of mindless consumption and production. The sun is omnipresent and it’s practically impossible to avoid it unless you’re convicted of a terrible crime and are imprisoned in the highest security cell.
The UV rays are cancerous and have a fatal long term impact on your health. Fortunately, technology has made great strides and we’re proud to have discovered- UV PROTECTED WINDOWS.

What are UV Rays?

Along with its much mentioned compatriot- Infrared, UV rays is an abbreviation for Ultraviolet Rays that are dangerous for humans and the most common cause for skin cancer. UVA and UVB rays are both types of UV rays which are the most prominent and cause the bulk of damage. They cause summer tans- or the sunburns. Only the UVA and UVB rays reach break through earth’s atmosphere owing to their long wavelength. The good news is that, only about 10% of the rays are UV rays and much of it can be blocked by making lifestyle changes and being mindful of it.

Other Sources of UV rays

People actually choose to expose themselves to UV rays. Yes. Tanning booths, black lights, curling lamps, halogen lights, fluorescent and incandescent sources and some lasers are artificial sources of UV rays. Now, UV rays are not completely harmful since they are used for disinfecting surfaces.

UV Radiation proof Windows

When sunscreens can become the norm, why not homescreens? Don’t be under the impression that just by staying indoors, you’re immune to the rays. Invest in UV protected windows. Now there are in general, two methods of using them:

  1. UV proof Glass panes: these panes reflect infrared and UV light while allowing the visible spectrum of light. This pane works like the filtering process by keeping the harmful rays at bay and allowing the warmth of the good rays in your home.
  2. Protective UV Film: This is a cheaper and less revamped option, where a film is placed upon the pane that works just like the UV proof glass.

Benefits of UV Protected Windows

  1. UV protection windows offer protection against harmful radiation that can cause cancer, without you having to resort to blinds that block natural light.
  2. UV radiation can also cause material damage to your furnishings and increase the cost of maintenance. UV protected windows ensure the longevity of both yourself and your furniture.
  3. They provide an extra layer of insulation.
